Well with Facebook going viral, I almost forget to blog. Hope you all had a wonderful year end and are off to a great start. I am hungering for the once valued customer services that grew our merchants to strength. Seems now-days that we have greed for speed with little time to listen. Not I! I refuse to be so rushed or uncaringly rush others to demand a need. Genuine interest is what I will always appreciate about any point of sale or business inquiry. Meeting the true needs of a client is always what keeps them joyfully returning and referring.

Glad I got that off my chest! Meanwhile, one of my loves, besides photography, is to write on inspiring or encouraging topics. You know, the feel good stuff. I'm not the perfect writer yet but I still try to develop my love for inspiration in print. Life is more peaceful in this manner. I hope that the hunger to speed through life subsides with a simple and steady pace of reflection and adventure and pleasantries. So many stresses plague our lives today, there's need to get back to basics and reduce your to do list and dive into Palms & Proverbs again.

You know, I actually do love the customer service & management industry, it just plan feels good to help people. I share more portraits soon. Have a wonderful new season of rejuvenation this 2011 go round.

Well, besides the amputations I did on the model to warm her up to the camera, I really enjoyed her colors and poses. I broke all the rules in these photo's.
The Model
This was Helen's first shoot with me and she moved like a pro in front of the camera. There is nothing like working with someone who understands your cues without having to stop and physically rearrange them in the middle of shooting. Does she look nervous? Not a nervous bone in her body! I'll share more about Helen and this shoot later on. Great job Helen.

This 2010 February Winter has been quite historical. We've experienced records amounts of snow from 12 to 30 inches, falling in Richmond, Virginia, Washington,D.C.and New York. The continual snow falls caused complete closings of schools, governments, and churches. This winter has given us blizzards, and created snow drifts that mesmerized the masses.

But through it all we shall consider ourselves blessed by the continual view of Gods handy works and the wonderful opportunity to be still and know that He is God.

I have enjoyed all the lovely scenes of downfalls of big thick and fluffy flakes covering all the barren tree branches. But one of my favorite scenes has been the melting snow creating tons of these beautiful wintery Icicles.

Have you ever done any sort of modeling?
From the first call from Steven, I knew he was serious.
He had the details of what he needed to do to get going.
He was already working with a experienced mentor.
And he had also selected a really great wardrobe.

Hoover and Qiana share Baby Davis

The Davis maternity was featured on my website last month. We had a great time in the studio and on our location shoot hanging out at LaDiff furniture store and the canal walk. Mommy overcame some trials during the last stage of pregnancy but she's a strong trooper and pulled right on through. I will have to feature Baby Davis on the blog again because I saw her wardrobe and she will definitely be in style. With all that high fashion, I know she'll steal the show.

Now and then I enjoy dabbling in commercial photography and I especially have a desire to shoot the accessories and decor of fine furnishings. I enjoy playing with the light to bring out the color and I work to show off the sleekness of an item using various angles. While on my last shoot, I took my Maternity model to LaDifference. She would soon need infant bedding, so this would be a refreshing excursion during our session.

Oh you've got to visit this store! From my point of view, I see lots of light when I enter its doors. The furnishing of color grab you and dance you from aisle to aisle, kissing your eyes with worm tones at times coupled with bold lines or delicate streamlines. Smooth tables and sleek chairs enhance every setting with splashes of accessory trinkets. The Diff is a fabulous shopping experience. My favorite accessories are the frames of course. There are beautiful selections on every level and I encourage all my clients to shop for your frames at La Diff.
The owners are friendly people and the staff there are quite warm as well...that's The Diff!

I wanted to share a few shots from the session with Sarah Paxton who was kind enough to give me the go-ahead to shoot in the "light corridor".

When you visit, notice their front window display, I enjoy them each month. They create a pleasant design. And be certain to try out some seats, they have one for every tushy, shown in their perfect seat campaign ad. Then check out the music on the first floor of the store. If you enjoy sounds from around the globe. You are sure to find something you like, even Brazilian tunes. You'll also enjoy reading their website loaded with history, events and local hot spots. Qiana and Hoover are a wonderful couple and came to me through another maternity referral. They each run their own business. Qiana is a State Licensed Child Care Provider of "Unity Childcare" and Hoover runs his own Electrician Business and is a Master Electrician of HCD Electric. It was one year ago, that we all took our place in the presence of God on behalf of Dawn & Vincent Smith. Their reheasal consisted of plan A (outdoor wedding) and plan b (indoor Wedding). Plan B prevailed due to a lovely cooling sprinkle.

Decked in White & Apple Red trim, the two were dazzling as they exchanged vows.

Varina High School 2009 ~ Prom Dinner

I was invited to shoot the prom dinner outing of one of my nieces,
Brianna Stubbs. Both Granparents Ed & Ann Smith (also photographers), and myself all trailed their small entourage of
High School friends as they headed toward Maggiano's, my all time favorite Italian spot.

Brianna graduates this June 2009. Her studies toward Criminal Law. Along with her parents, our family is quite proud of her and all she has accomplished. Her mother tears up to see how both her daughters possess a beautiful attitude of confidence toward life and value of good friends.

Immense love and support of family is the foundation of which these two have plenty. Her sister Sienna accompanied the group, keeping them in line, I'm sure. :) We can't wait for all these Graduates to take center stage!

Shall you part these very clouds of this world we know? Shall all we have built and hold dear be laid bare and charred by the presence of your coming? Will we be examined aloud all with your own eye of truth, with our hidden motives opened and transparent before you? Will we be destroyed by our own dealings even after the warnings of your Holy Law? Will we permit the foot of the deceiver to be placed upon our neck to be trampled in death from the decisions of our own free will? Oh Mighty God...penetrate our lost hearts, our darkened & blemished selves. Save and deliver us from our headstrong stiff-necked forgings. Save the innocent of this people and remove the wicked from high & lofty places. We see now, how the cities of the nations fall. Every island fly away and soon the mountains won't be found even as your great hundred weight hail is preparing it's way.

Wake us! We have become calloused at the unending daily reports. We use much technology & increase in our knowledge & confidence. Help us to make goodly usefulness of this tool and not abuse it. We've killed our home and the earth now die in mourning with a longing to be restored. Make anew our wholesome desire to serve you, our First True Love and place us once again in the palm of your hand, from which we've jumped away. Help our unforgivingness toward our fellow man. Infiltrate our ill minds and restore sanity to these evil hearted ways.

No Yeshua, our Lord, let not the tempter have his way with your created souls. Help us to come out of her, your people and not receive these coming plagues before these clouds part. Don't we know the merchants of the earth do mourn? Don't we know babylon is being thrown down? Don't we yet know to, that the truth is going to the ends of the earth and the Sevens and Tens are as symbols of what is to take place? Don't also, we know how your Great Voice will soon speak & be heard across the entire earth's surface, "I am the Alpha & Omega" and how you will reclaim your own.

Help us to walk in obedience even our world leaders. For it is you who is our King and none other and even they shall give the knee to your Holiness. Help us to serve you with our minds and our hands. Look upon us more, in mercy.
Though, let us be elect, as you say gathered together with the Angels who will part these clouds at the glory of your coming. Look even upon my wretchedness to remove the blemishes which I've acquired lest I be lost and not in your company. Seal us each Almighty that we know you forever, when part these clouds...I pray.

A Photographers Gift

Awakened, by the shining brightness, I absorbed the warmth of the sunrise.
With my head upon my pillow, this concentrated luminance traveling towards me saturated my face.
What a beautiful view upward toward the clouds.
That light....heaven's natural light giving me so many options.

For my camera,
it's removing shadows,
enhancing subjects,
creating reflections,
glistening the waters,
casting excellent rays,
giving most amazing sunsets,
expelling incredible rim lights,
inspiring millions of true photographers.

The beauty of light, freely given.
What a wonderful awakening.

Zachary, The Cowboy Soul-ja

Officer: I need to talk to you about them der....boots.
Zach: Yes Sir.
Officer: We need a closer look at those spurs. Can you let me see them?
Zach: Yes Sir, Sure can. No problem. They allowed me thru the Airport gate with no problem because the points are dulled.
Officer: I see, OK, I see they are dulled. Thank you, young man. Have a good flight.
Zach: Yes...Sir! Thank you.

Looking cool as cucumber in his genuine Cowboy ensemble, Zachary, the Texas Cowboy-Soilder must have been stopped 8 times on his trip home from Richmond to Texas. His attitude was excellence at all times, a true Army Soldier, now heading home with a wedding ring in tow and a constant joy in his heart. He was thrilled and has already selected his bride.

Great meeting you Zachary and thank you for serving our country!

Chicago Land

During my first trip to Chicago, Cousins Ron & his wife Aretha, journeyed me thru Chi-Town on a grand tour. Our first stop was Chicago's own China-Town. You would think you'd left the U.S. with all the architecture and Chinese style structures in place. Aretha enjoys the Original Noodle Restaurant. I learned how Noodle type restaurants are coming to popularity throughout the state. (The two love bird s are found kissing in the first picture, in what I call the China-Tower).

Next stop, we head on over to Harpo Studio where The Oprah Winfrey Show is produced. It was beautiful that evening on March 13th, the sunset was upon us and beginning to set...the Harpo Sign gave off the most incredible orange glow.

We moved on to quite a ride thru the city, Ron missing no beats, knowing all the history and details of his city, having been born and raised there. He was a fantastic tour guide with wonderful stories and historical facts. When he'd see a new construction or a new Restaurant, he'd take notice of it's new name and location.

We drove for miles passing by the most beautiful park scenery and excellent architecture, with Lake Michigan to my right, it was slightly iced at the edges. All boats had been removed until springtime when everyone returns to flock to it's beach side.

We also traveled down Michigan Avenue known as Magnificent Mile. Aretha and Ron shared details about their city being the Largest Green-City. This ensures that, although much brick and concrete exist, developers balance their space with greenery, keeping plant life, trees and flowers plentiful throughout all the cities communities.

One of the famous landmarks we passed was Grant Park where President Obama made his victory speech. Chicago is more than just a cold dark and windy town as I previously envisioned it. It's really a very beautiful place and yes, cold indeed. I'm told you get used to it.

We continued on thru downtown past Big John (The John Hancock Bldg) Chicago City seemed to go on and on showing off all it's tallest Buildings. I'm told Chicago houses about 8 million residents. We also passed through the 4 Presidential Towers. They are managed by Waterton Associates, the Presidential Towers are a residential complex comprised of 4 identical towers completed in 1985 (seen in picture #7). Sitting next to them, to their immediate right is the Sears Tower.

We ended out tour that evening with a Fan-TABULOUS meal at Leona's Italian Restaurant ( I'm calling it my second Italian Birthday meal), my first was Maggiano's Earlier this month. I just love Italian food!

American Kitefliers Association

Richmond Air Force Kite Flyers linked up this weekend with the American Kitefliers Association for their first Kite flying event of this year. Kiters were there from all ages. Most of you don't know....but I love kite flying. Yep, it's true. Bought our first kites years ago at the beach but since we don't get out to the beach much, it was put on the back burner.

This event will be continued thru the summer. Next gathering in June at Dorey Park in Virina, Virginia.

POETIC HOPE

While enjoying photos from some friends I came across this image by a Austin Photographer, Simi S. The flower was labeled "Imperfect Magnolia Tulip." However, only the beauty of it's uniqueness is seen by my eye.

Recently another Photog friend Ross Knight gave me the nick name "Poetic Hope" and I have started to embrace the fact that not only am I a photographer, I am also a poet and it's not just phase I'm going thru with my love for writing, it's a gift from the Our heavenly Father.

Holiday Love

Two years ago, December 2006, Ron and Aretha met at a bowling alley.
Ron a family member of ours, is from Chicago and Aretha is from Bermuda.
He, a Vice Principal and she self-owned a pool business, and loves to bowl.

As the story goes...."we met during one of her bowling tournaments"
they kept touch by good old VONTAGE, became friends and fell in love.
He went to visit her in Bermuda, met her family to get the OKie Dokie.
Ron survived a quite intense "looking over" by her father, and later proposed in Chicago during a Christmas Holiday visit with his family.
He picked out her B L I N G and they were off! Well, not exactly that fast. But that's the short version.

He knew exactly what he wanted and God delivered her right on time.

Baby Shower and Photo Shoot for Mommy To Be

Sunday afternoon a baby shower was given for Karen Lyons by Sharon Davis and a few other close friends. These two ladies work together with Stacey and Eric at Shardees Day Spa owned by Stylist, Sharon Davis.

Meanwhile, Games, music, fabulous foods and of course wonder baby decor and decorations, topping it off with lots of cake and many, many gifts. So much goes into planning a shower of any type but with a baby shower we get all gitty inside and talk in high pictched voice with lots of oooooh and awwww's.

The baby is due December 25th, and her name is McKinley. We all can wait to meet her. As for Karen, she is not only a beautiful Maternity model she is simply a sweetie and once out of that baby suit, I'll have her back in the studio, so stay tunned. Well after the gifts were opened they all gathered with me for a photo shoot with the Mommy to be. Thank you all.

With my work, I have the privilege of meeting the most
wonderful people and making fantastic new friends.
The Sanders Family was referred by a previous client and
they are one of the families that you just love spending
time with. Their shoot was on Election Day. After voting,
they spent the day with me in studio, pizza for lunch,
then we headed out on location.

We had an all day adventure, laughing, singing, changing and posing.
What a pleasure it was to meet and enjoy shooting their
portraits. We plan on another shoot as soon as dry land appears.

I was asked to do a Maternity shoot this month and so excited that it was my first. Meet Karen and George. Their love was so evident and sincere. George showed such gentleness and care toward Karen as we shot on various locations after the initial studio shoot. It was like watching a love story unfold in a romantic movie. They booth beamed with talk of the coming baby girl.

Once the baby is born I'll be shooting her every 4 months until she is one year old. I can't wait to meet her. Only 3 months to go Karen!

Meanwhile, I enjoyed the shoot so much, I selected their portrait for my new ad campaign.

I've been busy!

So I've been away for a while. Working, and keeping my skills sharpened is what I've been doing. Had the chance to practice with some new gear hmm.... I'm training in some new hardware and software, namely photoshop. Then I'm kicking out some Pics and Video, and oh..yeah, I'm sporting a new case for all my CDs. It holds 200 and it's about half full. Gotta get these babies organized nice and tidy! It shows your work beautifully ya know.

Oh I'm working on a new website for...shhh it's secret. Yes, I design websites too. Almost forgot recently I designed a sample of a magazine which is going to sit on my shelf for a while rethinking the content a bit. Lastly, I have special guests coming from Pictage. Michael and Anna Costa will be here in Richmond on August 18th, 2008 to share in their expertise of the Photography Business. Call me or email me at ahopesmith@gmail.com to RSVP. As the Richmond Pictage Photography Pug leader, I have the privilege of planning our monthly meetings. Our group is small for now but that doesn't stop the pics from flowing. The month of July was themed "All Things Cary Town". After a few blocks of friendly folks and questionnaire's, my shutter finger got hungry and we ended up at New York Deli of Richmond, Virginia. I was so hungry, I forgot to take the pic of my terrific Greek Salad piled with romaine lettuce, cucumbers, loads of 3 types of olives and feta cheese...yum~

...but I did shoot my water. Enjoy the pics!

Shooting Low Light.

Sharing photos during the Studio Grand Opening this month brought me to a few pictures of East Coast Dance Company. Several of you may have seen these if you came out to the tour. The two images are from one of my first photography jobs. I trained with 3 photographers to prepare for this event. I learned so much, that I must have talked the camera operations, ISO's, Shutter speeds and F-stop's in my sleep the night before. Praying all the way through that event, and with God's help I did just fine. I arrived early and had more help adjusting my camera settings. I completed test shots, in both lighted and low light situations. The stage lighting was fantastic and the images came out great.
By the time for intermission I had so much more confidence that any nervousness subsided. That night, I shot 3 hours with a 15 minute break.

It felt great to see my work on the big screen. Now, with doing weddings, 3 hours in low light is the norm at a reception and I'm always up for that job. So much trust is placed on you when you are shooting a wedding and special event...not to be taken lightly! Meanwhile, special thanks to you Pro-Photogs who helped me train. You all know who you are!

Being still and reflecting on the past few months is required of me just now. I'm grateful for the many experiences my work has brought me. I'm going deeper now. Toughing out some challenging areas that I've managed thus far in photography. I'm the type that clampers down and studies things out to see the forest first. So here I sit with a few books in front of me, contemplating my next direction. I love a challenge...so I've decided to master what I think is my weaknesses. And that would be shooting in low light ACCURATELY. It will help when I'm "Chasing The Brides" at their receptions.

By the way, self portraits has also been a good thing to master, this one shot with my lovely Canon timer.

Pam Harris and Cicero Williams

My cousin Pam Harris and fiance’ Cicero Williams were engaged on September 13, 2007, but a wedding date was not set until just recently. I received an urgent email telling me to call immediately. Well you know what that does to a girl...panic city, especially with a relative. Meanwhile she was just wanting to share the exciting news of her wedding date announcement and that she'd selected me as her photographer. We are both so excited!

She sounds so smitten the way she goes on about how good he treats her. I met with the two-some for their (surprise) engagement photo session. They certainly are a lovely couple. Pam likes black and white pictures so this photo made a nice selection. The two of them took beautiful pictures. I may even have them do some modeling for me later on. Congratulations Pam!

Delicious Mexican Food!

I so enjoy good Mexican Dishes. Each year around the holidays my family pulls out all the stops in Mexican Menu's just to break away from the Turkey syndrome.

Well that was just the case this January when I popped into this hot spot with some friends and family to Richmond's, Mexican Restaurant "En Nopal", located on East Laburnum Avenue. The food is so great and the Service is wonderful. You have to taste and see this fun colorful atmosphere.

Of course, I couldn't leave my camera behind but thanks gang for getting me out from behind my computer.

If I could feel, I'd feel unending love and a warm breeze blow in my face.

If I could taste, I'd taste the sweetness of another's lips upon my own.

Katrina Robinson - Modeling Debut

My girlfriend Katrina AKA Trina, is a model. In early October we took on the James River View for a photo shoot. It was so enjoyable that our hours together flew by... (well you know...when girlfriends get together). Meanwhile we retired for other engagements still needing full body shots. Well that's no problem for us two, we'd love to get out again for another session. I have some great location spots but I want THE JAMES! Nothing like the view on the river front.

So we'll hang out again soon, Photographically speaking, of course!

Pathfinders Club

Meet Sylvester and Valerie Moore. These two serve as volunteers for the Potomac Redeemers Pathfinders Club. This Christian scout club meets once a week and teaches biblical principles, while incorporating, camping, fishing, skating, biking, cooking, traveling and much more into their activities all for area youth. The kid all love the Moore famiy and are quick to state how much they enjoy the camping trips as thier favorite activity. The club meetings are growing as young people themselves recognize their own desires for spiritual growth. This is a family, building familys...true leaders on the right path.

Shooting this group was so much fun, we laughed as much as we took photos. Thanks Valerie for such a good time.
